Original oil on canvas painting (16" X 40"). Using the Hopi primary colors, turquoise or blue, yellow, white, and red.
Hopi people believe that colors guide their lives and are a medium of prayer, harmony, and balance. They also reflect the Hopi's relationship with the earth and their commitment to living in harmony with nature.
Turquoise or blue represents the West, which is associated with the traditional crops of the Hopi and symbolizes life and providing for one's family.
White represents the East, which centers on purity and balance. It symbolizes new beginnings.
Yellow represents the North, plant life and the blessings of the land. It symbolizes growth and the abundance of nature.
Red is the South and associated with the sun and warmth, representing strength and vitality.
Indigenous Beauty focuses on native wisdom, particularly with regard to our relationship with the natural world. As an artist, I embrace the natural world and those who cherish it and interact with its gifts respectfully. Many tribes of first peoples use bright color to create striking images.
